This is where you will all start - ankles tied tight and poised on the very edge of the platform. There is a metal bar above your head, to hold until you are ready to jump, then you aim for the big yellow arrow painted on the roof of the viewing platform and bar ( alcoholic- not metal, and from where the photograph was taken ), and off you go...
Don't hurl yourself out, just gently fall forwards...
There is something strange about jumping off a platform 145 feet above a river, with your subconscious brain telling you that in evolutionary terms it's a very bad idea, whilst your conscious brain tells you it's going to be OK and fun.
Once you let go, the thrill of free fall is nothing short of amazing.
Adopting your best swan dive position for the benefit of the crowd and your friend with the camera, you feel the wind rushing into your face;the river Nile (if you can focus on it) hurtling up at you at a frightening speed;the sound of the air rushing past you, and then, just as doom seems a moment away, a slowing down, a chance to take a breath again, and a brief moment of stillness.
If you've kept your eyes open all the way through that, you've done well!
An interesting option is to hit the water on the first fall - dunking yourself in the Nile but for those with less enthusiasm, the fall will pull you up just short of the water's surface.
