There's a stationary pause allowing you to briefly focus on the water, or the tower, depending on which way your head is inclined, or to pull your t-shirt out of your face if you can't see a thing and have no idea which way up you are...
Then, slowly for the first fraction of a second, things go in reverse ...
The old saying 'what goes up must come down' is turned on it's head and all the energy stored in the bungee cord from your rapid descent is put to good effect as the cord, now well extended, begins to contract. It's a good moment for all the science students out there to see and FEEL elastic rebound theory in action.
The ascent can feel almost as fast as the initial plunge and, like the original fall, you gather speed to the half way point, then lose it in the second half of the rise, pause at the top of the rebound, then start to fall once more.
