Main roads outside towns almost always have a surface of hardened red soil. However, when it rains, the soil quickly becomes a slippery mud with puddles and thick ooze. This particular patch of mud is just outside Jinja, a main town north of Kampala, and is part of the main road leading to Budhagaali Falls on the river Nile. A downpour lasting less than 15 minutes turned the hot dusty road into a slippery mess of mud with motorbikes skidding along and cars sending up red spray behind them. |
